Goodbye Omaha, NE

One chapter had to close in order to start this new one

For the past two months I was student teaching in a Kindergarten classroom at Chandler View Elementary in Omaha, NE. this was a huge step for me personally, moving to a new state where I knew barely anyone. I was so incredibly fortunate to have been placed into such an amazing school district and school with the most amazing students, cooperating teacher, supervisor, principal, and staff members. I do not think I could have asked for a better experience than this one. Everyone was so genuine and welcoming, I made friendships that I will cherish forever.

I learned so much from this student teaching placement that will help me me in planning for my future classroom. Everything I learned in the past three and a half year of college actually got put to work. Getting to be in the classroom every day for two months gave me a slim perspective as to what it is really like to a full-time teacher. To say the least, I absolutely love it so far!! My time here went by so fast, and although I loved it so much, it made it that much harder to say goodbye.

With my last day in the backs of our mind, anticipating a snow day on that very same day, we planned a going away celebration for Thursday instead of Friday, just to be safe! As the day came to an end, all festivities were over and students were packing up to leave, I had no idea if I was going to see them tomorrow or never again. Now, not being a very emotional person, I was holding it together all the way through the surprises, the hugs, and the goodbyes. It was not until the very last student was left waiting for their parents to pick them up, a very shy and quite student if you will, gave me a hug before leaving and said "I gunna miss you lot" as they walked away. It hit my weak spot, I was not expecting this to happen... but yes, I cried on my last day of student teaching.

P.S. We did end up having a snow day on Friday (today), so good thing we planned ahead! I was a little bummed that I did not get to hand out with the kids for one more day, but I was relieved I did not have to try and say goodbye again.

Thank you to EVERYONE who made this adventure possible and one for the books!
